I’m Max Johnson, a.k.a. Seileach Basketry (pronounced Shay-lakh). For me, basketry is about connecting to nature and our ancestral roots by weaving beauty out of what wild resources we have around us. It’s also a deeply metaphorical practice, as a lot of how I practice weaving ripples into my daily life: being intentional, seeking patterns and routine and seasonality, holding things together, containing, trying to create beauty out of what is around me.

Click here to watch a short film by Matt Robinson, in which I weave a Moses basket and talk about sticks and stuff.
